|
Students are
able to blend words when given the on set rhyme.

Marker with a
colored top.
List of single
syllable words
|
Teacher showing
the students the marker taps the first sound of the word on the cap and
slides their finger over the rest of the marker as they say the rhyme.
Teacher then says "word" and the students unison respond by saying the word.

Your turn, do
the same word. Review two words they have had and then give them the same
word they missed.

Blending
|
Students are
able to blend phonemes when given by teacher

Unifix cubes or
a visual showing the color squares for 2-5 syllable words
List of single syllable words

Using the list
of words the teacher taps a cube for each phoneme. Then the teacher
places their finger back over the first cube and says “word” and slides their
finger. Students say the word in unison.

Segmentation
|
Students are
able to segment phonemes when given a single syllable word.

Teacher says a
word. Then holds up one finger for each phoneme. As the teacher holds up a
finger the students say the sounds found in the word.

Phonemic Awarness is a skill children should have mastered
by the end of Kindergarten. This is an autory skill only and very easy to teach
and provide practice. In many cases children just need practice. The chart
below provides some scafolding to help your studdents master this key skill.
Remember the objective is that the students are able to hear the sound. This
assists the brain in hearing the sounds in the English Language which assists
in decoding and spelling words later.
